  1. ((( I considered posting some of my recently acquired stuff, but it pales by comparison to anything that has been posted so far.)))

You shouldn't think that way!! A coin need not be expensive or killer to qualify for a thread like this! Go ahead and post something if you feel like it. Nothing is more honorable than a humble but honest acquisition.

Here, I'm not embarrased about posting a humble coin, worth about ten bucks:

  2. It is indeed a restrike 1780 Maria Theresa Thaler. I have not had an opportunity to locate my attribution notes and attribute this sucker!

Surprisingly, I picked up this coin in a junk shop! I was a few miles out of town and killing time, so I wandered into this dingy place and asked if they had any coins or tokens for sale, and there you go. They had nothing else decent for sale though (at least in coins).

The 1926-S Buffalo looks much better in hand. I had to adjust the angle and lighting to capture the horn detail. As you can see, it's a strong full-horn.

Some of you already know that I'm putting together a hand-selected set of Kennedy halves in a Dansco album. A lot of those later proofs are much tougher than price guides indicate, including the 1999-S. I just thought that particular image came out really nice.

THANKS for all the kind comments! As you can see, I really do enjoy coins.... smile.gif

  3. There are a few - a very few - coins in ACG slabs that are actually properly graded and/or described. However, I would estimate that overall, at least 97% of the coins encapsulated by ACG slabs would NOT cross to a meaningful service.

Remember, ACG does not certify grades, they merely render an opinion - and the fact that they have no guarantee should tell you where they value their own opinions.

ONLY NGC, PCGS, ANACS and ICG "certify" their grades by offering a money-back guarantee.

Discount any ACG coin very, very heavily against a similarly graded coin in an NGC holder.
