    2021 EAGLES
In 1986, I started an American Silver Eagle set for my son to inherit someday. I started with the MS set and my first coin was purchased from TV sales. After a few years, I was able to start a proof set, and the collection expanded. I have been fortunate enough to maintain these sets through the years, but not without losing coins due to slot eliminations in the Registry. Everyone had to have the 2000 "Millennium" slab. Now it's history. A few others also. Now sets are being created for reverse proof, FDOI, anniversary, or whatever.
This year we lose the heraldic reverse on the Eagle, yet gain another landing. I understand 1 MS coin for each type. I understand 1PF coin for each type. I can eve stretch and understand a reverse issue for each type.
There are now 6 slots in the Registry, and still no mention of the reverses. The Mint even has "emergency" issues. What emergency? 2009 was a slight emergency. My 2009 proof is missing! Stolen silver shipment. No more silver bullion to San Francisco. All bullion coins are minted at West Point, NY. Why can't we go back to the original 2 yearly issues, or add the RP as a third? 10?
This is becoming a financial endeavor rather than a pleasant hobby. It should be about a few coins, not hands full of money.
I am certain the flack is coming, but it won't be the first time. I enjoy collecting, I enjoy the competition. I like the people I have met here through the years. I just think it may have gotten a bit out of hand.

    HAPPY COLLECTING!

    Will there ever be 30?
    Hello all!
Thanks to Jaime and Jim, I have been able to add a few more "W"
    quarters to my set.
    Will there ever be 30?
Who knows.....did they ever grade all 30 with the "W" designation?
1999 silver will be the task.....If I get to 25, I'll be happy.
Thanks again, and look through your extras...you might just have the ones I need.
P.S. My 1958 proofs are in the mail....NGC forgot to do the imaging, so you'll all have to wait.

It's too bad it never caught on in New Zealand
    Hi everyone!
I got the remnants of the NZ submission back today. The "Environmental Damage" is a vague, but accurate description.
Carbon spots, patina, and toning........all products of a less than perfect environment.
Well, I got spots. A little black and green in about a dozen places. Am I happy?........NO. Are they my fault?......NO.
I should look so good when I reach 64 years of age.
I asked about getting them "conserved, but waited until no one answered, and next they were at NGC.
The coins spent 2 weeks at NGC. The 1945 could have been sent to NCS if someone had only taken the initiative. I would have been happy to spend a few more bucks while it was there. If they can indeed work wonders, this should be"cake". I am told that once it is rejected for grading by NGC, it is hopeless to try to go through NCS services to retry.
I want to thank those that offered support, solutions, and, condolences.
I cleaned a sacrificial 1945 British penny and it looks super. It had a huge green blob at about the 2:00 o'clock position. A little hot soapy water and a jillion Q-tips, and it's as good as new. Not quite. It is looking great though. There was a lot of shiny under the dirt too.
All I wanted was to have a 100% graded set of NZ coins. On a small fixed income I was hoping to do a few. I'll take a PrAg if that's all it is.
Now I have to scrutinize every cent.....literally.
Let's hope NCS has the solution...pardon the pun.
This coin is too nice to toss in a flea market grab bag.
I hope none of you are going through these tribulations.
I just sent my proof set back to the Mint....again. The silver proofs are out and where's mine? Overnight delivery by August?
You all will be grading the 2010 sets by the time I get a decent set of 2009.
Let's hope things get better. I may even move up to "improperly cleaned" status.
    Have a great week!
Oh....here is the one I "cleaned".

Even a 67 would have been great!
    Hi all!
I sent a very nice graded cent to NGC for grading. It was done already by a well known third party grading company. People buy their coins every day! I got it for $2.50. I said to myself.......Self....why not?
So I did. I cracked out a 70 and hoped for a 68. Losing 2 grades is to be expected even with a very nice specimen. As you can see, I was wrong. I will have 2 options when I get it in hand.
Laugh until I cry, or throw it in the "Goodwill box" on the corner.
I hate to say so, but it looked nice enough to take a chance at a 68. My 2009 nice new proofs are going back to the junkyard that sent them. I'd be embarrassed to send them for grading. Between scratches and finger prints, they are already hazed and look like they're 10 years old. I am ashamed to show them to anyone.
I need a 2009 NGC PF 70 dime like now!
Email me if you have one?
Thanks for your ears, and Jeffrey?
I do a lot of crazy things....if you haven't noticed!

It didn't take a blind man to see this!
    Hello everyone!
    Just a quick note.
I got both Braille Commemoratives this morning, and they will be at NGC tomorrow.
Not for anything, but I have already accepted the facts of grading.
The uncirculated is MS 69, and the proof is PF 70UC. The uncirculated coin has a lot of tiny dings. It may have too many for even MS68.
All that wait, and I got a blem. Oh well....I can always upgrade on ebay for half of what this will cost me.
I sent some old stuff too.
I hope all members that received the uncirculated Brailles have better luck than I.
    Good Luck and happy hunting!
Anyone get the HABS coins yet?
I guess they'll go to NGC next.
  6. namvette68
    And issues they are!
In stock and reserved?Hello everyone!I know you're chomping at the bit for the Mint to release the long awaited pair of 2009 L. Braille Commemoratives.Well, they are going to be a little late. How late will they be, you ask? Over a month past the scheduled release date(3-26) ....so far. They are now saying April 30th for the 2. They have been "in stock and reserved" for a month. What gives with this?I wonder who'll get the first of the run. Will I get my subscribed pair, or will the phone in orders take precedence? If they don't have enough 90% silver blanks.....then what?I wish they'd do a Paul Revere Commem. Maybe a UHR? With silver on the obverse, and copper on the reverse, the coin might come with a tiny handle to make a frying pan. Just a thought!!I guess we'll have to send in our early Eagles so they can make the new ones?......sheesh.Maybe they could strike 2009 over 1989 and make them all errors?I'm glad I'm not the production manager at the Mint.If there are no 2009 W Eagles....don't blame me. I can't even get my Brailles. Woe is me!I may start smoking and biting my nails.....C'mon Mint!!!

    Census or senses report?
    Hello everyone!
A short note about my yearly insanity.
I was fortunate enough to enter my Presidential Dollar sets into the Registry in PF 70 UC for 2007 and 2008.
As most know that this will put the owner in a #1 set ranking.
I have done a bunch of searching through my few resources, and find 2009 may be tough on the PF 70 collectors.
The last I heard, about 15% of the (4 coin)sets submitted came back in complete PF 70 (4 coin) sets.
If this holds true, my submissions won't stand a chance.
My senses tell me that they'll still be mine after everything is said and done.
I am fortunate enough to have a few 2009 sets already.
I now have the up-to-date set of "perfect" Presidents.
    However.....
    I have even better friends.
Good Luck to everyone. HAPPY COLLECTING

    Finally!
    Hi Everyone
Well, it's finally that happy day again. More sets to NGC!
    WOOOOOHOOOOO
Pennies, and dollars, and Sacs and..........you name it!
Hopefully all my Sacs will come back with a FDOI pedigree?
Good luck to everyone that is submitting the flood of new metal into the economy. I wish NGC sold stock!
I guess this is the "change" we were promised?
My Loons aren't done yet, and the next wave is already there.
Hopefully I will get a few 70s to complete my sets.
Hopefully we all get 70s. It has been a tough few months.
I crossed my fingers for everyone!
    Have a great day!

  9. namvette68
    I did very well
    Hello everyone!
Just a note of thanks to friends and foes alike. Here's to the people that made my sets what they are. Some won an award......some didn't. I will try to maintain the standards of collecting and improve in 2010.
Thanks to Sam,Todd,Don,and Rene for input and support. Dean too....sorry!
Thanks to NGC for doing this, and recognizing Society members for their achievements last year.
My certificates made me realize how lucky I really am to be a part of this.
    Thank you all!
    Congratulations to all!

ALL 12 COINS AND THE PICS TO PROVE IT!
    Hello everyone!
It took some string pulling, but if you want to see them, I have all 12 of the Territorial quarters(with pics).
I missed being #1 because I had to wait until I had photo proof.
I could have thrown anything in there and obscured it, but I think not!
The 1st, 12 coin Territorial set. to be shown in the NGC Registry.......Enjoy all!

    Could this be the reason?
    Hello everyone!
I was just looking at a few world coins and here's whats for sale in Italy.
Only 10,000 minted, so we may have a chance to get a handfull for
    the W collectors.
I didn't check the Chinese site.

    I can only imagine.
    Have a nice day!

  12. namvette68
Hey....I'm only showing you what's out there for sale.
    Hello everyone!
I knew someone would destroy the myth about the 2009 "collector", W mint, American Silver Eagles.
I guess if you play with a few items in PhotoShop you wind up with a winner.
I received another new catalog with this coin for sale.
If I had enough money to sue them, I'd be on it.
Someone order a few and you'll own a big company as the dust settles?
I just thought you all might like to see what we're missing.
    Have a great collecting day
I'm back to my Canadian sets.
    Oh.....the number fits a PF 69 (2007) ASE. I checked.

  13. namvette68
I have some nice coins, but lousy imaging!
    Hi All!
At least I tried and didn't obscure my set.
My scanner is on vacation. It should be back today if I can get te error message to go bck to where it came from. My all-in-one did it, but what a lousy image for coins.
Not to worry. I will somehow get up and running to get these beauties redone and looking better.
I have my Canadians to image also.........whatta week this will be.
Thanks to the powers that put my sets up front!
Thanks to Dean for his nice words in his Journal post.
To him I say.....try catching me in PCGS slabs.....hehehe
    Happy collecting everyone!......
UPDATE!!!! SCANNER IS UP AND RUNNING! SCANS ARE DONE!

    How many did you get?
    Hi all,
I am wondering if anyone else is having trouble with the 2011 proof Presidents? I am thinking a 70 set is going to be tough. Let me know if you have sets in for grading?
    Thanks

    Is it really a PF70ER?
    Hello everyone,
I just received a 2011 Sac PF70ER in the mail, and was examining it when I found 2 tiny die cracks between 7 and 8 O'clock on the true reverse of the coin. The coin is definitely a 70, but I wonder if any more of you have noticed this. With the relatively small number of 70s, as compared to other years, might they qualify as a "mint error" also? If you have one or more, I'd like to know.
On another hand, are any of you sending in coins to be graded, and they are coming back with very low grades because fingerprints have been added while they were out of your control?
They all boast about how they can handle raw coins with bare hands, but they have to stop eating chips while grading. PCGS did the same thing, so they're all guilty. Their reply? "You must have sent it to us like that." While it was only a 69 when it went to them, they made it into a 65. All I can hope for now is silver going higher so I can melt it. I never open the capsules......I guess the Mint does it?
I scanned the cracks, but they're tiny. Let's hope we get a special slot?
    Good luck all!

    Bah humbug!
    Hi everyone,
I have just completed the 2011 ASE set. It's amazing how it took 6 coins to get it done. Two of the coins have no mint mark? They just claim to be minted at San Francisco and West Point. Funny how the others have a corresponding mint mark as to where they came from. A few more years of this and I'll go back to sports cards. I guess the economy is booming everywhere else. My pockets are so much more empty now!
I still have the best PF69 set, so I shouldn't complain. I hope I don't run out of gas on my way home.
    G'nite all

    Are they the new "dinosaur?"
    Hello everyone,
I am looking for the 2012 Presidents in a multi. NGC PF70 ER.
If you have one, or know someone, please contact me? I can find every other year, but 2012 seems to be elusive.
I would like to complete my set, and need this one multi....for now

    Thanks

At least the strapless penny was right.
    Hello everyone!
It all came to pass. If you've followed my last two weeks of journals, you,ll be right on top of this.
My KM13-A NZ, 1d Penny, is now just a plain 1945 penny. That's two they blew.
I sent either a PL or PF, 1945, to NCS for fingerprint removal. They did a great job. It does look nice, however, it's got a purple slab.....yup. It's polished. Gee, my eyes are playing tricks on me. I guess I have to send all my proofs back to be relabeled? They're polished too. New Zealand did have a proof penny in 1945. Krause says so. That's number two.
Third travesty is a 1942, NZ, 3d "one"dot", three pence. I sent it to NCS because it had a black spot on the reverse. Again, they did a great job. The spot is gone. The coin looks VF-AU. It got the VF. OK....no problem there. The problem is, I sent it to be evaluated and conserved. It was($20). It was sent to NGC for grading.
Guess what? Yup, the rubber stamp "excessive surface hairlines"
excuse. They work wonders on 1000 year old, half eaten away, corroded, coins they can't identify, and all of a sudden it is graded by NGC in a real label? I was born at night, but NOT LAST NIGHT!!
The upper left corner is out of the slot too. Gee, send it back, and we'll fix it "no charge." Another $12-$20 in postage, and the chance two lemons, and a lipstick show up for reholdering....no thanks.
Next, I try to enter this beauty into the Registry. I tried from 11:00 this morning. Not in their data base? I have the coin in my hand, but they don't have it listed?
Minor setback. I know Lisa and Amy will fix it.
OK, next! My 1965 NZ 6d(yes 6d, these are not British 6P)"broken wing" was evaluated and"conserved." You got it! Another VF and the same rubber stamp. Time to clean the cobwebs off the magnifying glass. They seem to be stuck on the VF too.
WOW! Now we come to the tough one. I could argue the grade, but won't. It's the last one. A 1956, NZ 1D,"no shoulder strap." Hey, they got it right this time. It looks good, and it is registered in my set. I took images for all to see.
Now,lets go back a few journals, and look at predictions. I said the label would get changed. I said I was at the mercy of NGC because these are all"variety" coins. I not only paid for conservation, but paid again for "grading." It's about $40.00 without the $40 postage both ways. All that came true.
I mentioned when the system went down on Friday, that they'd ship out my coins with no imaging, and before I could complain.
Bingo! Friday was the 11th. Postmark on 2 boxes- 9/10 and 9/11.
Well, the Post Office delivered them this morning. All five slabbed coins. Now for the best part. Another premonition?
I rush in to image these beauties for everyone to see. I did this first. Next I enter the Registry(finally working) to get them registered. I put in the number and ooops. Not in the data base. I do it again to make certain dyslexia isn't to blame. Same thing, nothing. I tried all the rest. Same thing. I can't register, image, or enter a description. That's odd, I never had this problem. I go to the NGC certification checker, and the number is no good there either. I got the grades off the slabs.
No wonder. I now check "Order Status." They are still scheduled for grading. Now I dial the phone.
A pleasant voice named Lisa......thank goodness for Lisa answered, and here we go. She has to make a call to check. That didn't work, but now it has to go to Amy. Thank goodness for Amy too. Within a few minutes, I was typing and uploading images.
Finally! The sun came out at my house......until.
I get to the 1942, and here we are again....not in the data base.
    That will be OK tomorrow.
Now comes the reason for this essay.
Not counting the cost of five major variety coins, this cost me about $200.00. Five coins, and four aren't what they are? One, they adamantly refuse to grade, unless it's pristine. Why are there points for lower than MS then? Hmmmmmmm?
I liked the body bag system. Now I have to use the vise and hammer method. A few of you asked if I was having problems. Not really. I have solutions.
I will do like some members. Buy the coin graded. Don't submit anything that is less than pristine, or not in OGP. It's amazing that the 2009 proof pennies got "environmental damage" right out of the box. They're terrible.
I still have about 20 Canada coins to grade, and chase Greywolf, but I think he's safe. I'm out of grading bucks.
It's time for me to re-evaluate too.
I hope none of you go through this disaster. I know some have, and some others still are.
I look at the odds. If I sent 100 coins to NCS and only 20 graded, I could have retired.
I will finish my set. 100% is just that. It's a shame some don't have a clue what 100% is.
On a bright note, maybe. I am happy Todd didn't have to pay for his coins not getting graded. I've been there too. The COA is as important as the coin sometimes. I tried to get a few with the extra line for description, but that line is reserved for vain collectors, or details descriptions.
    Excuses with no results.
    Have a great week folks.
You earned it if you read all the way to here.

    Is it Colorado?
When the Mint and the Parks Department promise to give each school child a "new" coin for attending, it was supposed to be the Battle of Saratoga quarter. The plastic capsules o one little girl contained a Colorado Statehood quarter. A few dealers said it was the worst introduction they had ever been to. Everyone had to drive to the local Post Office for stamping. Another inconvenience. I believe someone should make good on the promise of the new "50th" coin. The Mint is definitely making collecting coins a dubious and expensive hobby for young people. My sets will stop also if the reverse proofs of the Presidents and Sacagawea are not put into another category. The Silver Eagle set was changed and coins we had to have for the set are now edited out. I am losing my interest in collecting under these circumstances. I wanted to leave complete sets to grandchildren. The Mint has nothing better to do than change the last few coins in a set that are almost impossible to find. No wonder my son turned up his nose at collecting.
    Have a Happy Easter

If I had your money, I could burn mine.
    Hello everyone.
I finally came up with the answer to the silver shortage, and rising heating costs.
I am not sure if it will catch, but it was an idea.
We should all have a little money to burn.

  21. namvette68
It came sooner than I expected.
    Hi everyone!
I was just emailing back and forth, about trying to complete a set, and moving on. Another member and I were wondering where the end was. Well..............
I received my grades from the latest submission, and it's great news. I have the missing slots filled. Numbers are pending still, but they are there. I will do the imaging as soon as they arrive. It's my NZ 3d (three pence) set. It can use some improvements, but it's finally finished.
I have Canadian coins to submit. I may find a dealer to trade a grading or two, for some of my coins, but it will be worth it. Deadlines are fast approaching.
I have some 1999-2004 coins still in the original shipping boxes, unopened. I can't remember what they are. I hope the barcodes help.
Well, I am off to look for just one elusive $20 Canadian proof. I wish NGC would add a few more slots, but I can't afford to grade all I have now.
    Have a great weekend!

    PCGS is catching up!
    Hi everyone,
Remember when you wanted to add a few PCGS coins, but they weren't available yet? A complete set of some would take almost the full year.
I see PCGS has 2011 proofs already graded and they are just barely out of the Mint. I am fortunate to have a few sets, and now I can enter them with the others as they come out. No more waiting months. It seems to make it easier for scanning and entering also.
I would love to have a few PCGS sets in 70, but at the prices they command, I am happy to have what I do. Most of my new dollar sets are done, and now come the commemoratives.
All in all, it's a great day for the collecting society. NGC has now over 60,000 sets and still growing. Maybe all the new coins are the rebirth of collecting. I hope it catches on with the younger folks. Xbox is not a hobby!
    Have a great week.

    Few COAs short!
    Hello everyone!
Here I thought I was doing everything right. I filled out the submission forms with everything needed to adequately convey my submission to the actual/eventual graded slab. I just happened to omit:
    The Certificate of Authenticity!!!
Some Canadian coins have a serial number on the COA.
Can everyone in unison say DUH???
Thank goodness a fax is somewhat faster than snailmail. My coins arrived, and they should mate up tomorrow or the next day.
The next hurdle is........turnaround times. My little package is now sandwiched somewhere in between the huge cartons and cases of those with all the sets that popped up this week. I guess that's OK. I have been here before. I am looking for only 4 coins out of them all to be 70s. After that, I will take what I am dealt.
To all of you with hope for the pennies, I think your wishes will come true. I didn't look too long, but they looked great. Maybe real metal is the key thing that's been missing?
I would like at least a PF 70 set of them to pass on. They are the future of the run!
I hope during these tough times, everyone is making it work. I have been very fortunate to do as well as I have. I am blessed with both good friends and acquaintances.
I'd like to also take time to thank those that looked, or are looking at eBid. My coins will be there for now. I do much better, and it is way cheaper.
I would also like to thank the few that take time to introduce themselves. I get email from newbies and vested members alike.
To Lisa, Amy, and the rest of the team at NGC. To the collectors, dealers, and friends that love coins. To those that reached out, and are reaching out, to Society members in need...
    THANK YOU!!!
Your attention and devotion are not going unnoticed.
