Breaking Out - Part Two

Some results of my crack outs.

On 7/19/08 in my journal I told of how I cracked out all my odd slabs (PCI,SEGS,NNC,ANACS,FTGS, and ICG) and sent them into NGC to see how they would do. The first invoice was posted on the web the other day and here are the results.

I had 4 PCI slabs that were all graded at least 8 years ago and I agreed with the grades. My Ireland 1939 farthing started out as a PCI-63RB and came back as a NGC-65RB, nice bump up of 2 grades. It does have great eye appeal and I think that really is what upped the grade. My 1946 Irish farthing was a PCI-63R and came back from NGC the same grade. Happy with that I am. My 1928 Irish 1/2 cent went in as a PCI-64R and is back as a NGC-65R. Ya-Hoo, I'm liking it. My last PCI slab for a 1950 Ireland 3 pence went in as a 65 and came back as a NGC-65. This is the one slab I was thinking had a chance to go up a grade, but, oh well, it didn't.

What's one to think when NGC up-grades PCIs grades. First of all, these coins all had above avg. eye appeal and no serious bag marks or spots. The old grading of a decade ago was more factual and I don't think took eye-appeal into the thinking. I never had a problem with PCIs grading when they first started out but I haven't purchased any of thier recent stuff. I think D.L. purchased the company and not even sure that it's still called PCI.

In part 3 of this journal I'll let you know how the ICG and NNC slabs came back. As my 2 other invoices get back I'll post what happened with them to.
