Breaking Out - Part Three
NNC and ICG crossing over to the other side.
Well, lets start with the NNC (National Numismatic Certification) slabs, which are sold on eBay by seller- Centles. Never had a problem with Centles as far as service, but I knew that the grading was going to be high compared with NGC or PCGS. I would always purchase from him thinking that the coin was at least 2 grades lower than what the slab said. I sent in 2 NNC slabs and here's what I got back. Sent in was a 1967 Ireland 1/2 crown NNG-66 and it came back a NGC-65. Okay, thats better than 2 grades lower but what I was thinking it would. The next was a 1967 3 pence from Ireland NNC-67. Pretty high grade and I knew it won't come back as a 67 as the 3 pences are a hard coin to grade. After looking at the coin afer I broke it out I was thinking a 64 or more likely a 65. Oh my, was what was I thinking. My new 1967 3 pence is know housed in a NGC-63 slab. A 4 grade difference from NNC.
Next up are the ICG slabs. Sent in 4 and here's what I got, ICG-64 back as a NGC-63 (1948 Ireland 6 pence), ICG-65 back as NGC-64 (1951 Ireland florin), ICG-65 back as NGC-65 (1951 1/2 crown) and last was a Liberia 1847 cent that went in as a ICG-MS62 BN and came back as a NGC-PF63 BN. Now thats a nice up grade, mint state to a proof and then up one grade to. Well thats it till my break outs from the US get posted and after that I have a few tokens coming.
