Delusions of grandeur

Are you wearing rose colored glasses

Several recent Journal entries have inspired the following thoughts. If you believe there is a definitive grade on any coin submitted to any grading service, then you are wearing rose colored glasses. In reality, numismatics is not a science! Therefore each and every grader will have their own personal bias. Herego, the larger auction houses routinely submit a coin over and over again, to get the grade they want. It has been well documented that many of the top coins have been submitted several times. You may ask, why would they do that? Well my friends, the bottom line always tells the tale. One grade can often lift a mediocre coin to a record sale.

Before casting aspersions on we humble submitters, perhaps you should take a moment to see things from the submitters viewpoint! This having been said we can only hope for one thing when we spend our hard earned money for a submission. Namely, consistency!

This would be eutopia! However, I live in the real world and know better. If you can not grasp this concept, then it is very likely the 60's or 70's were too good to you.

Respectfully, William Thompson
