wow what a jump

I gained many registry points I was looking at my coin Registry yesterday and noticed I went from being ranked 650th to 584. now I'm not complaining as I love the jump, But I haven't added any coins, so I'm guessing NGC must have corrected some of the grossly under scored coins in my collection. whoever asked for the correction thank you very much. I have a few sets in for grading. maybe I'll hit my goal of the low 500's early and have to revamp my goal to the mid 400's this year. happ

A great surprise came in the mail on Tuesday

Boy am I bewildered and Proud.... I went to the Post Office on Tuesday to pick up some coins returning from NGC and to my great surprise I had another large white cardboard package from NGC. Thinking it was just packaging I had requested to be returned to me, I let it set on my desk until last night. But when I opened it, it was an Award for Outstanding Achievement for my 1973 proof set. Now I am very proud to win an unexpected award my first year collecting, And believe me you will not find a

As I have stated in a post last month I subbitted 117 coins last month and I thought a few of you might want to see what I think were the highlights of those subbittions. All in all I'm very happy with all but 2 coins that came back in the dreaded purple slabs with just the word Details on them this kills me why cant

ON MY WAY

Well on my way to making my goal for 2013.... Good Morning my fellow collectors, I set a goal for 2013 of breaking into the top 500's in registry points. And just 2 month into the year I have broken through the 700's into the 695 slot.( for now at least if someone close to me updates I could find myself right back in the 700's) this may sound like I'm bragging and I quess I am a little. however I love it when I know a goal is within my reach. And that I may surpass it. I know I should l

Another long photo shoot

why did I allow this easy task to get so far behind? Good afternoon my fellow collectors, After looking at the large pile of slabs that needed to be imaged, I broke out the camera and my lightbox and started taking photo's. I always take 3 photo's of each so when I run them through photoshop, I know I'll get at least one good photo. I was about 165 slabs behind so this took awhile to just get the photos. I'll wait until after dinner to photoshop them that way I'm fresh and my mind is a lit

Just a quick question

2012 Graded coins Hello to all my fellow collectors, I have what I think is a very simply question. Does anyone know when the 2012 coins will be priced? I have about 50 coins dated 2012 that say No Price, and since I'm new to collecting I was just wondering. Any polite responces would be of great help. Happy collecting and please remember any day you wake up and see the green side of the grass is a great day.....Mike To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments

Oh What A Year

My first year collecting coins First please let me wish each and every one of you a Happy and Healthy New Year. 2012 was my first year collecting and having my coins graded, And for a true beginner I think Ive done quite well. I sent in over 785 coins to be graded and was pleased with most of my submissions. yes I had a number of them come back in the dreaded purple slab But most of them came back as expected. As you can see by looking at my sets I collect modern coins as my wallet and kno

Its a Sorry Day

major coin dealer refuses to stand behind there product. I resently bought 4 Roosevelt dimes from Silvertowne. A 1948 D ,1948 S 1948 P and a 1950 D. The 1948 D Graded MS 64 FT about what I expected The 1950 D graded the same. however the 1948 P and the 1948 S came back improperly cleaned. I have spent well over $8000.00 with this company this year alone. when I contacted them today there only recourse was for me to send them back the slabbed coins and they would replace them with two raw coin

Sometimes it a good idea to check before you buy

18 pc comm. sets sold at silver town I have been eyeing a 18 pc set of comm. 50 cent coins, All NGC graded ms 69. long story short I was about to place the order last night at a cost of $899.95 plus shipping. I made a list of all the coins in the set and went to NGC's price guide and looked up the prices for each coin. It came to $719.80 and as I said they wanted $899.95 for the set. I quickly changed my mind on this purchace and am setting on the money for a better deal. I guess the moral

Election 2012

A very long day.... What a long day it was yesterday. Im an election worker here in wayne co. WV. Our day started about 0525 setting everything up and trying to make our cramped room as comforble as possible. The polls opened at 0630 sharp as thats the time our computer based polling machines started working. At 0610 I went outside for what might have been my last smoke for hours and there were over 20 people waiting in line calmly for there turn to vote. As I said I work a small precenct of a

I went to my local (and only ) coin dealer in my area he offered $30.25 per ounce. on the day I sold them Silver was at $32.25 netting me $423

Photo's of my coins

Being a cheapskate is costing me more in time than it would have in money. I have started a long and at times confusing job of posting photo's of all the coins in my registry. I have taken what I think are good photo's of all but 25 of my coins. The pain in the behind is cropping and renaming all the pictures with their cert. number. Then trying to find them in my registry to add the coin and any other info I have on the coin. On the good side I'm saving over $3000 and thats without count

1986 S JEFFERSON NICKEL

1986 S JEFFERSON NICKEL NGC GRADED PF 70 UC Hello my friends, I was luckly enough to have a 1986 S Jefferson nickel grade PF 70 uc from a 1986 Prestige set. I know as of last week NGC had only graded 7 coins in this grade. Could anyone please look at PCGS and see how many they have at this grade? Thanks God Bless and happy collecting To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Oh What A Day

Who would have thunk A few weeks back I submitted a 1986 S Prestige set for grading. I did it mainly for the Liberty half dollar and dollar. But boy what a fantastic suprise that awaited me as I entered the coins into my registry. The Liberty's both graded PF 69 UC but that was far from what came next. The 1986 S Jefferson nickel came back a great PF 70 UC with a full market value of $2500.00 I almost had a minor stroke, In my wildest dreams I would have never thought a 26 year old Jefferson n
