2014 50th anv set Kennedy P Proof coin

A really rare coin I received this email on ebay about the 2014 Kennedy 50th Anniversary Set Hello, I see you are selling the 2014 P Kennedy Proof half dollar. I have this set too and I believe I am actually the first person to discover something of even greater value about this particular coin of the 4 coins set, that the mint did not tell anyone about. You see the very last time the Philadelphia mint made a proof set of coins was in 1964 which was of course the first year of the Kennedy h

Kennedy 50 cent coin set

Not to happy with the Quality I have been able to review 50 sets of the 50th Anniversary Kennedy 2014 Half-Dollar Silver Coin. Now these sets were not all mine. The set belonged to friends and family. This is what I found after reviewing 200 coins. I recommend that 30 sets be returned to the Mint for a refund. These coins lacked quality that one would expect from the Mint. One Mint produced great looking coins. Many of these coins would grade 70. So lets take look. The best coin in the collec

Great NGC raises Grading Fees for 2012

Does special lables add that much to the value??? Email from NGC Modern Special $20 12 working days All U.S. coins 1955 to present requiring a special label, including Releases designations and Eagle 20th and 25th Anniversaries. Five (5) coin minimum. 5-coin minimum waived for America The Beautiful 5 oz. quarters.   Why I ask is this level of grading and labeling increasing in price. I thought $17 was bad. Is it because we are all fools. Brown, blue it all the same. My coins whic

Little call to NGC today

Santa will not be bring me any coins before Christmas As many, I have sent a set of 25th Silver Eagle to NGC for grading. The coins were received by NGC on Dec 5th. I know this to be true because I am friends with the clerk at the Post Office in Sarasota Fl who handles the mail for NGC. From what I gathered is there was a massive amount of items sent to NGC in the last 10 days. Much more than the daily volume that NGC gets on an average week. So I call NGC and a nice lady tells me about how

For all of you who drink the Koolaid

There was no sell out is 4 1/2 hours Look and see when this order was taken by the US Mint Now tell me how this could have happened if there was a sell out in 4 1/2 hours. 30th Anniversary American Silver Eagle set

Come'on man Look, if you think that the mint should have made 250,000 sets then ?get over it? The mint produced 100,000. Why, you ask to keep the buzz going. Keep the supply low! The American Eagle Silver coins are 25 years old. I think the American Eagles will go no longer than 35 years. We have no control over the mintage of any coin the mint makes. The mint is making a ton of money off this one coin group. $2.00 for every MS coin and 12 to 15 bucks on the Proof and Burnished coins look at t

Nothing wrong with the United State Mint ordering system

New system Sell Out in 3 mins In my opinion there was no problem with the way the United State Mint sold the 2011 American Eagle 25th Anniversary Set. Every coin collector and coin store in America was calling the US Mints call center at the same time. I worked for 3 and half hours before my order was taken. I have been in line at a ticketmaster line for tickets to find that the show was sold out in 3 minutes. So if the US Mint updates the order management system then the only thing will chang

Not Happy today

I dont like to buy Junk Silver Wow what a year makes! In 2010 I ordered my 5 oz America the Beautiful coins from one of the eleven Mint Distributors. I sent my coins to NGC for grading. Out of the coins sent, my lowest grade was a MS67 one was at MS68 and the rest of the 15 coins graded MS69. A few were MS69PL. I was very happy with this outcome. This year I could order these coins from venders who order their coins from the eleven Mint distributors. What a world of difference. Can you say c

Follow up

You never know what will happen I am taking the time to share with you my experiences with grading of coins. Every day I look at coins that I may buy or sell. It is important that I have command of the likely grades of coins that I encounter. When coins falls outside of what I thinks the grade of a coin should be, then I take notice. Why you ask, well as a buyer I hope not to over pay for a coin. A coin that perceived to fall in to a grade range upon first examinations then to find that the co

MS70 vs MS69

You make the call I have posted a photo of a 2010 American Silver Eagle coin. I sold this coin to a good customer of mine and then customer brought the coin back to me because the L in liberty was nicked. His statement was, it was not a prefect coin and should not have been graded as a MS70 by NGC. Well I looked at the 2011 ASE and the coin had an imperfection on the L in Liberty. I ponied up the cash and sent the coin in question to NGC for an Appearance Review. I received the coin back today

Can you believe this??? Wow what a nice grade. How could I get so lucky. A YOSMITE MS69DLP only 2 in grade with none higher. I think I will be happy for a week. I am sure next Monday more coins will find this top grade as well but till then I will smile To see old comments for this Journal entry, click here. New comments can be added below.

Multi-Coin Holder gone for ever for the little guy

My grand daughter who is only 3 hates NGC Today I learned that ?The NGC Multi-Coin Holder will be offered only in combination with NGC bulk grading services, and will no longer be available in combination with Tier grading or as a ReHolder service option.? For years I have had the one dollar American Silver Eagle 3 coins set put into one Multi-Coin Holder for my grand daughter. But not any more. NGC is beholden to the big guys. Report on the 2010 Mint State Silver Eagles

I have processed 5000 coins After processing 5000 Mint State coins my finding are as follows. I recommend you pre buy as many MS70 at a presale price. I have only found 4 MS70s per 1000 coins. I have never seen so much junk in my life coming from the West Point Mint before. Normal numbers should be 30 to 60 MS70 per thousand. Not in any of my lots. It looks with my early finding that MS70s will fall in to the high price range. I think well above $150 range. Nomal is $85 to $90. If you have fou

The US Mint Web site

Just keep trying and trying some day you might be able get your order in Today was such a train wreck. I tried to order the new limited to 50,000 Lincoln Coin and Chronicles Sets. I am sorry to say things have not gotten much better with this vender than the last one. It took over 2 1/2 hours to get my order in. Why, why I ask. I can get sporting tickets and concert tickets to the hotest events, but order some coins and the web site is lock up tighter than Fort Knox. US Mint let me give some f

I want my SAE PROOF!

I have waited all year for this???? Now my collection of SAE proofs will have a big hole in them with no 2009 coins. Is the mint for real? What a line of . I am feeling a lot of pain in my heart with this announcement. The mint states" The proof and uncirculated versions of the American Eagle Gold and Silver Proof Coins are not mandated by law." Well US Mint, the production of these coins are mandeted by MY LAW, so get back to work and make me some SAE proof coins

My UHR came today

The Mint is about 25 days late Just got home from work the find my Thousand Dollar + UHR coin sitting out in the cold and on my porch. I dont feel real good about this. I lock up my coins and now the mint just places these high dollar coin out for anyone to take. I Like the over the top box and OGP that come with this coin. Nothing like a $50 dollar box. I store my coins in a safe and the box is just too big to go inside

The maddness of selling coins!

I can sell coins at a lower price than you can. I have been selling and buying U.S. NGC Graded Silver Eagles on E-Bay for some time. I am always surprise at with final bids on some coins. Let?s take look at the 2009 Silver Eagle Mint State coins. At the time of this posting silver spot is at 13.50 an oz. Prices for a green monster box is $8825.00, and don?t forget about the shipping charge of $55.00 making the total purchase of around $8880.00. Now the cost per coins is at $17.76. If you send

Circulating $1 Coin Direct Ship Program

My local banks have droped the ball on President Dollars I was looking at a way to get First day of issue on the President Dollars. The banks in my area are no longer ordering new Dollars ahead of time to have on hand the President Dollars on the day of release. Now I have to go to the secondary market to get my NGC graded coins. This is costing me hundreds of dollars per set. It looks as if the mint is going to save the day with the cirulating coin direct shippment program. But I have look a

What do coin dealers and scrap metal dealers have in common

copper, tin, brass Today I went to the local coin shop with 2 coins to see what amount of cash I could get for them. One coin was a 2008 W Dolly Madison mint state $10 gold coin graded PCGS 69 and the other coin was a 1988 W Olympic gold $5 gold proof coin PCGS 69. Wow what a surprise for me. The local coin shop is nothing more than scrap metal dealer. I was offered less than melt for the coins by about 20%. The dealer stated that he can not sell these coins and that he cracks them out of the

Are the grading services, all what we are to belive they are??

Are you sure or do you have question at times too I have received my 9 submission coins 2008 Silver Eagle Proofs back from NGC. Of my submission I received 3 PF70 and 6 PF69. I have reviewed the grading and have found that NGC has under graded 3 of the coins. 3 of the 2008 silver eagles disserved the grade of PF69 and 3 were under graded to PF69. I am not happy with the grades. I am going to resubmit these 3 coins back to NGC for a second look. If they fail to upgrade then off to PCGS they

Can you find great coins at a local estate auction

Is it true, its only money, and did I make a good deal I have attained my first coin auction this past week. The collection was from an local estate. The coins smelled like they were kept in the basement for 50 years or so. The auction was with a local auction house. I spent $1480 on coins and $461 in grading fees. I was able to obtain an 1883 CC GSA coin, and 1880 CC Morgan silver dollar, and a 1993 Bill of Rights 3 coin set. I won several 1960s proof sets and some common dated Morgan Dollars
