Indian Head Cent scratch question

Just out of curiosity, is this a scratch or what on this 1898 IHC?

Hard too tell from such a close up photo.........Could be a planchet flaw I suppose.

Could be. It is not a recent scratch if it is, it has toned over.

JJ, here is a smaller closeup of the scratch or whatever, if it helps.

I would be more inclined to say planchet flaw, as it just doesn't have the characteristics or shape of a scratch.

It's really hard to tell on this. It looks like some sort of gouge as it is deeper at one end than the other and it also kind of skips acroos the coin at spots.
