Peso and Shilling help.

6 posts in this topic

I was looking thru alot of worthless world coinage that I have. I know it's basically worthless because it all dates in the 70's and 80's. Mostly pesos and some new england coins, and so forth. I do have aquestion on two of them tho'.

I have a 1971 UN PESO and a 1953 One Shilling. Were these made of silver given the year of mintage? thanks!

If you're asking about Mexico and Great Britain, the answer is no. Mexico went to copper-nickel in 1970 (not that there was much silver in the previous pesos) and GB started using it in 1947.

Any idea when it was made? The standard alloy in the Mexican peso changed quite a bit in the 1950's through 1967.
