1882-O Morgan Grade Opinion

4 posts in this topic

This coin has as much (or more) flash than any Proof Morgans I've seen. Cameo effect, but "chatter" in the fields. Any guess on how it might grade? The left part of the reverse has some bluish toning which appears on the scan.

Thanks.

I'd say MS-63 PL (I'd have to see the actual coin to decide on DMPL vs PL, so I'll play it conservatively). The Reverse seems to suggest a 64 or a 65, but the Obverse has a bit too much "chatter" on it to go higher than 63.

Just my observation.

Hard to tell if cheek has frost breaks or real dings. Reverse has a BM- bag mark (did I coin a new phrase insane.gif ) Also noticed spotting on the R of Pluribus. Bad lighting overall to give a somwhat accurate grade. I would say 63. However if this coin were offered on Ebay I would not bid more than 60. PL or DMPL can't be assertained (speling?) without having coin in hand. cool.gif

Going by the marks on the face which look kinds rough I'd say 63 max. I'd say it would stand a good chance of PL designation @ either PCGS or NGC. It's well struck with heavy frost and that model is common in that condition so don't expect anything extra because it's an O mint.
