how long and what yrs did the gold eagles have roman numerals? i have a friend with some gold he was left and he wants to know value. i just need to know what yrs they used roman smile.gif

Gold eagles used Roman numerals from 1986-1991. Arabic numerals started in 1992.

 

For the 1907 Saint-Gaudens Double Eagle, only the high relief coins used Roman numerals. The lower relief coins used Arabic numerals for the date.

 

Both the trime (3-cent piece) and Indian Head "V" nickel used Roman numerals for the denomination.
