I don't know if I would consider that especially steep. After all, I would assume these folks are grading this 1921-S as VF20 and Greysheet bid is $400 for VF20, whereas your coin looks like a F12 and Greysheet bid is $150 for F12.

Actually, Tom, upon further review, you may be right. The other coin does have a nice, strong horn. Maybe $400 is reasonable!

 

I do grade mine Fine, and it is priced at bid.

The 21-S is a strong VF, and should be graded by overall wear, which is the way things go now adays with Buffs.

 

It's actually a bettetr struck example from a very dismal (quality-wise) mintage.
