Question about a 1872 Shield nickel

Hi all just wondering about this shield nickel can i see part of a 7 behind the ball and touching the lower part of the shield and is there some lines on the otherside

 

or am i going Shield blind after looking a to many of them confused-smiley-013.gif

What you are looking at is called a "spiked ball". They were present on many hubs, and are very common.

 

It's not the remnants of a 7. It's more like a die gouge.
