That's very cool. It looks as though the pioneers are standing in a meadow, is this intentional or are they simply in an area that is slightly overgrown?

This is an excellent example of the many statuary groups scattered about the country. Thanks for the fine photos and comments. Most date from before World War II – 1870-1939 – when localities sought to honor local and regional people and events by commissioning a work of representational art. Sadly, much of that tradition has dissipated as has the quality of realistic sculpture. One of the better examples is the group of soldiers added to the Vietnam Memorial in Washington, DC.
