I don't know if the dies or the planchets were wrapped in plastic but gold & silver bullion coins are seen struck thru plastic quite a bit.

Leakycoin could have fun with this I attached... 'Liberty had to go real bad & couldn't find the bathroon so she made a puddle around her feet.' heehe

That is a cool coin. I like it. What do you suppose was in the way? Looks like plastic to me. The strike through area looks proof to me.
