Please help me identify a coin!

Hello,

 

I recieved this coin in some change at my local pool hall tonight(who knew pool tables wouldn't take asian money?). It is a silver coin, almost exactly the same diameter as an american quarter, a hair shorter. On one side there is a picture of someone who looks like Confucious with Asian lettering to the left and right of his head. One the back, there is a big "100" in the center with "1996" above it and Asian lettering below it. If anybody can tell me what this coin is I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

Perhaps a South Korean 100 Won. I don't have my Standard Catalog Of World Coins to check but I'm 95% certain. Pictured is 1994 coin with Admiral Yi Soon-Shin.

In a strict Won to $US conversion it's worth about 8.4 cents. As a collectible it is listed at 15 to 60 cents retail depending on grade, or condition.

When I was in Korea, people used to stick those into the American video game machines and save some money! Maybe I should have saved them instead...
