Jefferson Nickel - Circle on Forehead?

2 posts in this topic

This 1940 D Jefferson Nickel has a perfectly round circle just northeast of Jefferson's eye. It is ever so slightly raised above the surface of the rest of the forehead. Any ideas on what it is or what it is caused from? Just curious.

One picture is a "negative" hoping that it shows up better.

Thanks,

Rey

basal cell carcinoma, as in basal state, the lowest identifiable grade of coins and skin cancer...there was no sunscreen available in the late 1700's or early 1800's...for real, it could have been a ding on the die that was polished out leaving that raised area...could be a clash, I'd have to determine the positioning of the reverse as opposed to the obverse.

I'd have to think...it hurts.

Maybe someone can come up with an answer, I looked at my 1940-D and it does not have this.
