Ever think of how MUCH money folks used to carry in coin form?

Just musing the other day on the magnitude of various old pocket change.

A whole DOLLAR was an IMMENSE sum in 1800-1850.

How many folks today carry a week's pay in COIN form? It must have been a real experience to actually have internationally accepted ...MONEY.. to carry around. And judging from the wear on the coins, apparently they were heavily used.

A FIVE DOLLAR GOLD PIECE must have been talked about for days.

A ... TEN??? No WAY!!! NOBODY has THAT MUCH money.

Go be a tourist in China wink.gif

My understanding is the gold coins were primarily used for inter-bank transactions, not circulation among everyday citizens.
