NGC Walker Grades----Doc's Walkers

16 posts in this topic

Hello Folks----- As some of you know, I purchased a wonderful grouping of 'raw' 'original skinned' Walkers last year. I bought a total of 52 coins from the same seller off of Ebay---49 coins were MS quality. The MS coins dated from 1936 to 1947. All the coins had been placed, by the original owner, into the old Wayte Raymond holders and Whitman holders. The seller sold the coins a page at a time---5 coins per page in a listing. Immediately, I knew what I was looking at---and, take my word, I was as excited as a kid on Christmas morning. I wanted to try and keep the 32 MS coins from the Wayte Raymond holders together---as a set.

After a couple of months it was all over. I had the coins in hand. Without a doubt some of the prettiest NT toned coins that I had ever seen. I needed them to fill 32 spaces in my Walker Registry Set---Doc's Walkers. Finally, due to some friendly prodding from my son, Dave, and from D.D. [Dewayne] here on the NGC chat boards----I finally sent the coins off to NGC for grading.

I might add that along the way I had encouragement from two other friends here on our chat boards----Mark Feld and Tom B. It was an amazing adventure for an old guy like me. Finishing this set now will only require a little tweaking. It has taken me 8 years and a few dollars to accomplish it. A lot of patience too.

Might add at this time a THANK YOU to NGC. They were kind enough to pedigree these Walkers under my Doc's Walkers. It adds quite a touch IMHO. Will be adding the coins to my Registry shortly.

Want to tell you all that I have indeed purchased a new digital camera. And, my wife, Barb, is currently taking a course at our local community college. She will be trying for pictures in the 'near' future. I hope to be able to share these and other Walkers with you. I know that I have been promising this---and it is coming along pretty well. In the meantime, here are my grades from NGC. The one coin that was a BB---- was done so for 'reverse wheel mark'. It happened to be one of the prettier toned coins. Will say that I was surprised to say the least.

Columns of numbers were not that close together when my wife typed them. Sorry for them being soooo close together.

I bought a collection like that once ... Pre Knowledge of them ...

Pass them through my hands to make about 500 bux profit ... I havent owned one since because since I had found out I had a GOLD mine that some online dealer took me for a ride ... Positive note I made money ...

Congrats those are awesome grades and coins I am sure ...

These coins are absolutely beautiful and original. It was my pleasure to see them in their original albums during my stay at supertooth's after the autumn Baltimore show and to see them again in their NGC holders, again at supertooth's home, last week. The one bagged coin had me, too, scratching my head on their decision. Also, it appears that NGC has gone to a more clear plastic for their holder that makes the optical clarity of the slab superior than previous.

Bob, Thanks for posting your story here and earlier. It is a great inspiration and example that dedication, focus, study and patience can be richly rewarded when one is astute and financially prepared enough to take advantage of those rare opportunities. Congratulations!
