I can't personally see any evidence for tooling. Wait until you get further feedback on this thread before you take any action.

Well, after blowing up the image some then "LIBERTY" may have been retooled...

Or, the crud in the lettering may just be drawing more attention to it.

Hi, dooly,

I'm no expert for sure but I like it. I see no evidence from the pictures of tooling.

Did you inspect it with a glass ?

( guess I gotta start asking that question from now on )

NGC has only graded 35 1809 dimes in all grades.

The fields look light in color and I don't like that, should be darker I guess.

Grade looks VF-30 to EF-40, light fields on an XF+ coin is ok I suppose.

Does the coin look the same color/tone as the picture ?

How many US $ did you offer ?

Fergie.

An 1809 Capped Bust Dime like that is too valuable to try to buy raw. Stick with PCGS/NGC/ICG/ANACS.

This dime COULD be really nice, but not worth the gamble.

Hey EZ_E,

Did you color correct the pictures ?

And do you like/dislike or neutral on the coins general appearance ?

Fergie.

I just hit auto enhance. And I really like the coin. I am suspicious of "LIBERTY", though.

Personally, I am in complete disagreement with a coin at this grade level. Provided you are able to see it in-hand, and are a competent grader, I never hesitate to buy coins like this regardless of the holder, and indeed, would not bother to leave it in a slab. The fact is, most folks collecting these just don't want a tiny coin like this stuck in a gigantic holder.

Anyhow, back to the coin, I don't see any particular problems, but then again, the image is not very good. As for tooling, I see nothing to imply that.

That could be a great price-according to what you see in hand. Trust me on this. What you get from online auctions very, very, very, very seldom matches what is shown, especially color, not to mention quality. Therefore it is like the old saying about "buying a pig in a poke".
