Is This PVC Damage or Something Else

2 posts in this topic

I am seeking some assistance in determining if this coin has PVC damage or if this is just a natural effect on this coin. The pronounced coloring coming through on the photos is not evident when looking at the coin in hand with a magnifier. In hand it just has the white/gray cloudy like appearance. The Fifty Cent and Quarter in the same set have similar markings. My 1954 set is similar but less and even lesser on the 1955.

Thank you.

It is difficult to determine what actually might be causing the hazing on your coin. It could be PVC but could also be environmental residues deposited when the coin was in its original mint packaging. The good news is that residues such as this can usually be removed through professional conservation.
