Can anyone tell me what is going on with this Washington dollar?

I found this in a denver bank roll and I figure this has probably been seen before in the Sacagawea series. This dollar has a black haze on the obv. and rev. I dont know if its a clading error or just contaminated.

Fred Weinberg would know but he doesn't post over here often. It probably has something to do with planchet preparation but I am not sure.

That should be a sintered planchet, improperly annealed. That is, a sintered planchet before it was struck.

Very possibly. Fred Weinberg is definitely the one to ask. I quickly looked on his website and saw two sintered nickels for sale: a 1971D graded PCGS MS64 for $135 and a 2004D graded PCGS MS64 for $175. He posts across the street.
