FSH: 1831 Capped Bust Half Dime NGC MS-61

6 posts in this topic

Up for your consideration is a beautiful capped bust half dime, graded MS-61 by NGC. It is the luster, though a nice cartwheel, that is keeping the grade back, not any marks. It has nice cartwheel luster, but it is not the dripping gem that is needed to achieve a high grade.

The surfaces are nice and clean with very few marks, as I mentioned earlier. I will not deny that this coin has been dipped, but it has gained beautiful golden periferal album toning since then.

This coin was struck with heavily clashed dies, giving this coin great character. In addition to the clashes visible on both the obverse and reverse, there are numerous die cracks and gouges and even a filled S in "states".

The holder itself is brand new with no scuffs or scratches.

I am currently entertaining all offers on this coin. As a guide, Heritage has been selling these coins in 61 at anywhere from $300 to $460.

I can provide references if you desire. If you have any questions or would like larger images, please do not hesitate to ask. thumbsup2.gif

Zack, I'll trade my AU63 1831 and $225. My example is a gorgeous prooflike example with an eraser mark by the date which would cause it to bb. Let me know. thumbsup2.gif
