Unfortunately it is very difficult to tell from your image what might be causing that look on your coin. There is a possibility that professional conservation efforts can "brighten" the look of your coin. It is also possible that the look of that coin is something which conservation would not be able to help. The best solution would be to send the coin in for an in-office evaluation. The fee for the evaluation is 1% of your declared value.
