Am I crazy, or would a 2007 Complete Set contain 63 coins....

31 posts in this topic

The 1853 thread got me thinking about how with the over-lap of the Statehood quarters with the Presidential Dollars and the First Spouse Gold, 2007 and 2008 will each have a LOT of coins.....

I truly hate to say, but if you collect the satin uncs and the business strike uncs, it adds more than a few to your list!

So, if money weren't an option, I'd probably buy them all. But I'm not a huge fan of commemoratives, so those go off my list, I don't have the money for all that gold, so those go off my list. I collect 1 oz silver, 1/4 oz gold, and 1/10 oz platinum, so just three bullion, so I'm only gunning for 52 coins, it looks like. yeahok.gif

Hmmm.... so which of the coins would be issued in both finishes? The First Spouse Gold?

Cents through dollars, just as with the 2005 and 2006 coins.

Correct. The bags of coins that the Mint sells are also business strikes.

Personally, I hate the satin finish cents through dollars. NGC calls them SMS (special mint set) coins, as they are found only in the Mint sets. Just another collector screw job if you ask me.

Yea... but then again, as long as the Mint is making a mint off all these different programs, they'll keep making them.

So that means for the State Quarters it's not just PDSS (Philly, Denver, SF clad, SF Silver) it's PPDDSS (Philly BS, Philly SMS, Denver BS, Denver SMS, SF clad, SF Silver)

F me.

So by distincting between SMS and Business Strike, that adds 18* more coins to the set for a total of one-hundered and theee different coins minted in 2007

* Five quarters, Five Dollars, Penny, Nickel, Dime, and Half for both Philly and Denver.

It gets better in 2009 with the new cent designs, and especially so if the state quarter extention is passed. blush.gif

**shakes head like a dog**

What new cent designs? Are they finally going to replace Lincoln with Reagan?

Extend the State Quarters?!?!? What are they going to start over with Delaware again?

State Quarter Extension Passed

Numismatic News- 1/29/2007

For the fifth time in as many Congresses, legislation to authorize the equivalent of a six-coin extension to the 50-state quarter program has passed the House of Representatives. Action came at 1:28 p.m. on Jan. 23, 2007, passed on the consent calendar unanimously. The last time it had similarly passed was in the wee morning hours of Dec. 9, 2006, as the last sands of the 109th Congress slipped through the hour glass.

Washington D.C., Guam, Puerto Rico, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands, the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

I have no objections to these being added to the States Quarters Program. It would be interesting to have circulating coinage for these exotic locales (Note: I don't consider D.C. to be exotic.) The only problem that I see is that there are six locales, and that is not in keeping with the usual 5-coin annual sets. Perhaps Congress and the Citizens Advisory Committee could agree on five different designs for each locale to be issued for the next six years. I'm sure that each of these localities could come up with five noteworthy events, historical places, buildings and/or people, etc. to adorn the five coins issued for each year.

(1) I hope not because I'm getting tired of this program and its crummy "art," and (2) Even if this gets approved by the Senate and signed into law, I don't think there's ANY way it'd get approval to have 5 designs per capital/territory since the full-fledged states only got one.

So it's now "The 50 State and a Bunch of Free-Loaders Quarter Program"

Not yet, like the other four times it has managed to pass the House but it still hasn't passed in the Senate.

Have I missed anything?

Heck, the only reason I was buying mint sets was so I wouldn't have to buy rolls or pick through pocket change to update my albums. Now I have no reason to buy them at all!

And we have enough coins with dead presidents on them. A series featuring portraits of Ms. Liberty would have been much more interesting, but I guess there's no time or money to waste on such fanciful ideals in the post-Pearl Harbor, er, post-Hiroshima, no wait.. oh yeah, right... the post-9/11 world. tongue.gif Maybe in the post-post-9/11 world, when never ending wars against non-entities like "terror" are outlawed on grounds of just being plain stupid... blush.gif

Condor,

I do admire your stats, but dont you think he means what is going to be in the proof or mint sets and not every single offering the mint has.
