Conserving an early Buffalo Nickel that was Polished

3 posts in this topic

I was searching a "junk box" and found a 1913-D Ty1 Buffalo Nickel that was polished. It was clearly polished since it has EF details but a lot of shine to it. I am sure it not whizzed. Is there anyway to "remove" the polish and keep the coins details in tact? Is this something NCS does?

THANKS!

The short answer is "no." Polishing involves removing the original surfaces. There is no way for professional conservation to restore what surfaces have been removed. Professional conservation may be able to remove any surface residues remaining, but your coin will remain polished.
