Grading Mint Sets

2 posts in this topic

Can sets purchased directly from the U.S. Mint submitted for grading? If so, is it worth the expense? I have the sets in there original holders with certificates of authenticity.

Some specific examples: the Prestige Proof sets and the RFK/JFK Commerative Set. I also have some single coin sets (e.g. 1999 Susan B. Anthony Proof Coin).

Thanks.

Sean,

You may indeed submit sets of coins to NGC, however, we currently request that the coins be individually submitted for grading. As you have seen from the recent release of the NGC Multi Coin Holder, you will soon be able to submit coins as sets and receive them so certified within this new holder.

Because of the desire of so many collectors to build sets in the NGC Registry, we find the demand to certify these and many modern coins quite high. Since not all coins are created equal by the US Mint, many collectors want to know if their coins garner the highest of grades and thus is the reason why so many coins are submitted for certification and are found already certified by NGC.

We view on a daily basis many of the coins you noted in your post as well as many others.

Thanks for your question.

Rick
