Removing tiny 'carbon specks' from Red Copper

The biggest issue with conserving a full red copper coin is the fragility of the surfaces. Of the major coin metals, copper will tone most quickly. When a full red copper coin is submitted for conservation, first the red surfaces will be examined. If there is significant risk seen, then the coin will not be conserved. There times when a red copper coin is conserved and there are many other times when it will not be; this all depends on how much the conservation may or may not affect the overall color.
