The FUN show was very good to me!

The Heritage Platinum night auction on Wednesday was a fantastic opportunity for pattern specialists to add to their collections. I know it sounds cliche but there was truly something for everyone who collects this area of numismatics.

Some of you may know that I've been working on a pattern denomination typeset and with the addition of my auction winnings from Wednesday I was able to fill the last 5 holes in the set. Granted I have a couple of presentation pieces in the set (1868 quarter eagle and three dollar gold in aluminum) and a couple of pure fantasy pieces (seated Barber half dime and dime) but that gives me something to pursue at future shows! laugh.gif Here is the complete set which is still a work in progress. Hope you like it.

UNREAL thumbsup2.gif

Edit: Do most pattern collectors lean to toned coins? Seems like most of the high end patterns are nicely toned?

Nice and impressive!

Now, where's the following denominations:

commercial dollar

stella

quintuple stella (if you consider the denomination to be different from a double eagle)

half union

And should the standard silver dime/quarter/half/dollars be considered different denominations also?

AegisIII- I haven't got my Stella imaged yet but I will add that in the next week or two and I am planning to add the commercial dollar. I hadn't thought about the standard silver issues but I suppose I could add them besides it will give me something else to look for at future shows.

Now the Half Union could pose a problem. Unfortunately I don't like the gilt pieces and I haven't seen a nice copper example since the Pitman sale when I was only collecting Morgan designs.

The quintuple stella isn't a distinct denomination at least not for my purposes (thank God!)

Lou- You got me with the 460.5 four cent pattern! Never heard of it! blush.gif

In all I added 27 coins to my collection at FUN 25 of them patterns.

Apparently, for some reason, this is the type of thread that people can really sink their teeth into grin.gif

Look in Judd 8th ed. at p. 113 right after the J-460 3c and right before the J-461 5c. No denomination type set is complete without it! wink.gif

Wow!

I knew you had some awesome coins but to see a bunch of them together like that is just incredible.

27 new purchases? Another Wow! I'd love to spend some time with you and your coins. Patterns are a neat niche.
