1872 Hobo dollar?

I've seen pics of hobo nickels and love tokens but think this is the first hobo dollar for me.

Very interesting. This is the first one I've run across. I'm guessing there are some that specialize in collecting these, like hobo nickels.

 

Are there other coins that are typically reworked in addition to these and the buffalo nickels?

Yeah, a bunch of them around. Like the alteration done to some large cents.

I checked the bay's completed auctions and found a nice one that sold for $275 on Heritage. The others weren't nearly as detailed and did not sell. One of these is NCS slabbed with 'Engraved Obverse'.

That's pretty cool. I've seen the Trade dollars modified like that, but this is the first Seated one I've seen.

I've seen a few of these. I have seen it on most of the seated liberty coinage (all denominations) The best one I saw was on a quarter.
