Believe it or not, this room was called the "Sweeps Cellar"

 

Tiny flecks of gold and silver that fell to the floor in the early days were swept into the "sweeps cellar" and auctioned off, often bringing up to $25,000 a year. Visible from the street, the sweeps cellar no longer serves a function.
