Black NGC First Generation Holder

In Heritage auction on 1/6/07 item 7211 is a 1891 O morgan dollar in an old first generation NGC black holder. How rare are such holders? thanks

Those holders were only used for a few months at the very start of NGC. A lot of people didn’t like the holders because toned coins and copper looked darker in the holder. When the white holders were introduced they were much more favored over the black holder. Many of the coins in the black holder have since been reholdered or broken out for resubmission. I cannot comment on rarity but I do know that many people, myself included, would love to own one.
