Guess the grade and tell me your honest opinion of this dollar.

PCGS has their own agenda on how they grade certain dates in the series, and the 89-S is one of those dates they usually grade tougher for whatever reason.

 

 

That particular coin looks dipped out and with marginal lustre (especially on cheek) to begin with for an 89-S and has several deep and distracting hits on the cheek, otherwise the strike is ok for an 89-S and the fields and reverse look decent. Unless there is a lot more chatter or lines on the coin that the pic doesn't show it should've gone about MS62 IMO, and PCGS is just in their silly ultra tight mode these days on Morgans. I would wait 6 months and resubmit it, or just send it to NGC.

 

I can tell you one thing for sure, when D. Hall even attempts to claim that their grading standards haven't changed, he is either 100% completely out of the loop on the day to day grading operations or just really insulting our intelligence.
