Question on Crossover

2 posts in this topic

1 - Question on crossovers. I am about to send in a bunch of coins in PCGS slabs for crossover to NGC and had a question. The determination of the cross is established BEFORE cracking open the slab - lets say it is a determination that the coin will cross at same grade of say Proof 69. IS the coin AGAIN reinspected after removal of the coin from the holder for a possible upgrade after removal or is the GRADING process completed after the first assessment.

2 - When the Grader establishes that the coin will cross is it his job description to crack out of the slab or is that someone elses job.

3 - What is your warranty concerning a customer complaining that during the crossover proceedure he thinks his coin is damaged.

Hi Mike:

Your questions are answered in turn.

1. If a crossover coin is being considered for upgrade, it will be removed from its holder and reviewed raw by our graders.

2. Just as graders are specialized in grading, we have personnel who are especially skilled at removing coins from holders. No, graders do not crack the coins themselves.

3. I do not know of an instance when NGC has damaged a coin removing it from a holder. If this were to happen, you would be compensated the declared valued amount that you supplied on your invoice for that coin.
