Great Britain Three Pence Question:

2 posts in this topic

What is the difference between a GB Three Pence that was struck for circulation and a Maundy Three Pence.

I have a single Three Pence 1902 here with fantastic toning but how do I know which type it is ?

TIA

Edit: I also have the same question for a GB Four Pence coin dated 1870.

According to Seaby, the designs of the regular issue 1902 and 1911 3 pence series are identical to the Maundy 3 pence but with this proviso "as Maundy but dull finish".This wouldn't be much help with a Maundy piece that had become dull tho! I wonder if a die state junkie could distinguish them?
