Error on the new North Dakota quarter

2 posts in this topic

I have found an error on one of the new North Dakota quarters. The rim edge,on the obverse by the words , of America, is very sharp to the touch as if the die came down crooked and it is thinner in that area.It is sharp enough to cut your finger with if you put a lot of pressure on it and slid your finger over it.Has anyone else found any quarters like this?

Hi Tanker,

Thanks for your question. I have discussed your coin with our graders, who have relayed the following information to me:

"A knife rim, as you have described, occurs when metal is squeezed between the collar and the side of the die. While this may be unusual, it falls within Mint tolerances for normal production on mint state coinage and is not recognized as an error by NGC."

I hope this information is helpful.
