Strike through error? Why does the error section of this coin look like a

Most strike through errors appear this way, though sometimes if they are struck through something rough like cloth, they will be less smooth. The smoothness or reflectivity in the spot occurs because the texture of the substance struck through will be imprinted on the coin. Also, the added pressure of this obstruction can cause the depressed area of metal to be smoother than the die surface.
