Strike through error? Why does the error section of this coin look like a

proof coin? What would it look like if the plastic was covering the whole surface??

looks like the luster has peeled off . Delamination maybe

Most strike through errors appear this way, though sometimes if they are struck through something rough like cloth, they will be less smooth. The smoothness or reflectivity in the spot occurs because the texture of the substance struck through will be imprinted on the coin. Also, the added pressure of this obstruction can cause the depressed area of metal to be smoother than the die surface.

If the plastic was over the whole surface of a MS coin it would come out proof like.

It very well might turn out reflective, though, over the whole surface, it wouldn't be as consistently textured as it is in a concentrated spot. It will also make the details very mushy.

It might. I think the plastic would spread out so thin it would be hard to tell the difference under those enormous pressures..
