I've seen pictures of chopmarked coins, but never anything like that one. The picture isn't huge, but from what I see, it almost appears that the T DAY stamp is much newer than the coin itself. Just a guess, though.

It is stamped into the coin and it looks like it has been there awhile.I thought maybe it was some kind of promotion. It is approx. 1/16" deep. I am still tying to figure out how to post a picture? I can post an attachment. See if this one gives you more detail on the stamp.

It was not uncommon for merchants in the 19th century to counterstamp coins as a way of advertising. The type style seems to new for that. It adds to the aura and mystique of the coin.
