Go for it m! This is an attractive coin and looks like the O-104 by the die crack on the obverse. I would grade it at AU55 from what I can tell by the picture. Happy selling!

If it is a nice as it looks, I think it could command between $400-450 easily. That means you bid no more than $300 for the coin if you want to retain that profit margin.

i'm skeptical. the dirt in and around the devices, and the very even brown toning otherwise makes me think it was stripped and artificially retoned. just because it's brown doesn't mean it's original. of course, I could be entirely wrong. I like the coin, except for the accumulated dirt. makes me think too much.

i'd like to hear what anyone has to say about that. always something to learn.

I guess "lutser" is luster when there are doubts about the coin. wink.gif To be honest, I had some of the same thoughts as you have written, but the image size is so small that I simply cannot tell.

Your input is always refreshing Tom. I can't tell with my eyes, but if this is a large 8, 1811, I'd buy it because they're so damn hard to find. James has a really nice one on his site (if it's still there).

Looks like AU details, but I wonder what is under all that dirt. If the coin is soaked, the dirt may flow off, but I doubt it. There are some expensive machines designed for coin soaking that might work on this one. If the dirt is removed, there is a chance the toning where the dirt was will not blend with the rest of the coin toning.

This coin could have been dipped and the crud may not have come out of the stars and other devices. This coin might be desireable IF the luster is solid. Without that luster, I would pass on this one.JMHO
