A Commemorative Coin for 2009

I haven't seen this posted here yet, so here 'tis: Congress passed legislation which authorizes the Mint to make 400,000 silver dollar commemorative coins in 2009 for the 200th anniversary of Braille's birth. Here's the article: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/con..._print/asection .

The 1995-D Paralympics $1 features braille on its obverse (photo attached) and is, I believe, the first United States coin to feature braille lettering. The 1996-D Paralympics $1 has the same braille inscription as well.

 

The Alabama state quarter is, I believe, the first circulating (i.e. struck for the primary purpose of circulation) U.S. coin to feature braille.
