Canadian special proof sets

2 posts in this topic

The RCM is limiting its production of 2003 Coronation 50th Anniversary proof sets to 30,000 sets.

Do you think the limited production (i.e. relative to regular proof set mintages of 2 to 3 times that number) will keep prices high for them? Have 2002 Golden Jubilee proof sets gone anywhere but up in price?

Shiroh,

In my experience with Canadian modern coinage, most of the Canadian collectors only buy a small percentage of the mintage, most of the collector coins go overseas, such as the US and Asia. The modern coinage really do not rise in value after 3 years, when most of the collectible desire has dissolved. Even low Canadian mintages of under 5000 have had a hard time bringing collector demand.
