I don't know, but let me know if you find out. I have the EXACT 3 raised thingy's right above the "1" on a 1885-s Morgan. I've never been able to find anyone that could help me. I'll dig up a pic.

I think it's those damn countiung wheels

Looks like dropped denticles to me. This would cause an incuse impression in the die and impart raised bumps in the coin.

What the heck is a "countiung" wheel? And how could it leave a "raised" pattern on the coin?

That's what i originally thought, but was told the metal from the denticles would be too soft to make an "impression" in the die.
