Morgan Dollar

5 posts in this topic

Hi,

I own a 1894-P Morgan Dollar graded 25 in a PCGS slab. It was originally my fathers and he stored it in a small manilla-like envelope.

As a result, it has dark grey toning - it's ugly.

There is also some green gunk on the coin (see near Liberty's chin).

Is this a coin that would improve with some NCS conservation (along with a cross-over to NGC) or is it like putting lipstick on a pig? Obviously, a 25 looking all shiney would look strange.

Any thoughts, ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Judging from your description and previous experience with circulated Morgan Dollars, we could likely help your coin. We likely could remove the green and lighten the grey toning. We would not make a circulated morgan such as yours unnaturally white. This summation could change upon actually seeing your coin, but we likely could improve the coin's appearance.

We would still need to actually see the coins to give you any kind of concrete information as to its conservability. It does appear that the green spots could be removed and the coin lightened. Your coin would not be white.
