Rim Damage

Professional conservation would probably not be able to help a coin with rim damage. Rim damage is typically a damage that has gone deep into the metal of the coin. Since conservation does not include restoration of that original surface, this is something that would not be helped through NCS efforts.

The best we would likely be able to do for a coin with rim damage is to authenticate it and encapsulate it in an NCS Details Grade of Genuine holder.

With NCS Details Grade encapsulation, the label will state the grade of the coin as if the problem did not exist in words, then give a description of the problem that is preventing it from grading with a major service such as NGC. For example, your coin might have a label that reads:

2001 Silver 25c

State

Unc Details

Rim Damage

With NCS Genuine encapsulation, your coin will be labeled as Genuine, as long as the piece is authentic, and the problem will be listed only if it is extreme such as a plugged hole, whizzing, re-engraved details, etc. Your coin in a genuine holder might have a label that reads:

2001 Silver 25c

State

Genuine

These are just examples of how an NCS encapsulation label may read.
