Silver State Quarters - Toning or Corrosion

2 posts in this topic

I have some Silver State Quarters (1999 and 2000) that have some sort of brown discoloration on the outer edges of the coin (close to the rim). Since I'm not sure what this is, is it worth sending in to NCS for conservation? confused.gif

We have seen early state quarters with the kind of issue you describe. We have had success in removing this brownish coloring. We have noticed on some pieces where the color is particularly deep the fragile mirrors underneath have been adversely affected. We have been able to help coins such as yours.
