NGC Holders with grey spots

The ‘grey spots’ that you refer to appear when the inner core of our holder touches the outer clear plastic shell. Yes, we care about them, and take great efforts to minimize their appearance. These spots do not suggest that there is any moisture inside the holder, or that there is anything defective about the encapsulation.

Our holders are made to very exacting tolerances, and odd-size foreign coins or coins that are not perfectly aligned can push the core against the outer shell. Often these spots relax over time, or the core can be repositioned enough to remove the spot by simply knocking the holder against the palm of your hand.

Of course, you can always send this coin to NGC for reholder, and we’ll take care of it right away.
