Slabbing CC Morgan Dollars

5 posts in this topic

A co-worker has about 8-10 CC Morgans in the plastic mint boxes. I pitched the idea of having them third-party graded to possibly increase their value and he seemed receptive to it. The question is that when these go to NGC, are they cracked out of the plastic holder and placed in NGC standard slabs or will they be left in those holders?

I believe it can be done both ways. I think the original mint packaging is the way to go. If left in the mint packaging, NGC will simply grade it and put a lable that says "This is not an NGC holder " or something along those lines.

Be very leery of cracking a CC Morgan out of a GSA holder. They're sometimes more valuable in the GSA than the TPG plastic.

-- oh I agree. That's why I want to find out before sending his coins out...
