Another fine example of the Liberty V nickels. Do you collect the proofs as well or just business strikes?

Dwaine, this set of V nickels started with a old incomplete whitman book from my grandfather. Mostly pocket change specimens you know AG to G-4. I then started to collect VG to XF samples for a dansco book. When I joined this forum, I decided, heck with the VG to XF stuff off E-Bay. Over the last year I have focused on Unc to BU (ones I can afford) and saving for the 1885 1886 1912S in UNC.

Joined heritage and Teletrade.

I currently do not own a Proof but I am eyeing on of Mark Feld's proofs on his web site!

Thanks for asking.

Prudden! Glorious PU indeed, in my opinion looks PL to me. The frost devices contrasted over gleaming fields??, reverse doesn't quite match the glory of the OB, but a solid strike with considerable luster. Nice presentation of an old favorite of mine. I have a goal to recover that coin one day, to redeem a past saddness when all I had was that coin:( and HAD to sell it to stay afloat. There are actually a few gems I want back in my collection.

Thanks for sharing :headbang:

Thanks!!

Pop 29 with 14 higher in 69UC.

The price difference in 68 over 69 is just to much for me!!

The pop is very low for Ultra Cameo's in the 50's

P.S. Awesome Morgan :applause:

You aren't saying thiis Morgan belonged to you at one time?No way!! I think it's one of the nicest MS 66's I've seen. The seller had three or four other MS 66 Morgans at auction tonight as well. This 81S was the best of the group. Now I can sell my PCGS 65,hopefully for a small profit.

Here's one I just won today!!Cheap too.

Very nice looking coin !

I am very much still learning about everything since recently coming into a few hundred of these Morgans.

..Question , ..I had pretty much determined that the one's that I have that had potential for grading (best condition) were the one's where there was not much , if any , wear toward the top of the hair area and had a great deal of detail. However , it seems that this one has some wear in this area and still received a 66! Don't get me wrong. This looks like great news , however , am I missing something important ?

Thank you !

Hey Brian,

Whatever you are seeing,it sure isn't any kind of wear from handling. There may be a few rub marks from the coin contacting other coins. Can you be more specific as to what you are looking at? Here are even closer shots. of the coin.

Thank you , and yes , I have seen some coins and have some that have more hairline details at the front top portion of her forehead. Where the hair starts at the top of her forehead going over to the right , say 1/2 an inch , it appears that some of the hair detail is worn a bit ? If that's OK for a 66 , that's great w/ me .

Thanks !

BTW , ...The section is on hair directly above center of her eye.
It's almost a circular type shape..

Hair begins below "B" in Liberty and 1/2 way down hits "wear circle" pattern?

You are mistaking lack of detail in the pics for wear. When grading Unc morgans you need to be looking for scratches and rubs in the luster.

Check out my Morgan here, Sorry that my picture is not quite as good as his.

You can see the rubs in the luster on the cheek and some tics in the field to the left of lady Liberty and a light scratch under her chin. These are marks from being in contact with other coins. These marks probably take mine down to a MS64 or MS63.

Also notice the flatness above liberties ear on my coin. This is from a weak strike and is not a product of wear.

His displays none of these marks or very few of them. That is what makes it a MS66.

No Way am I saying this specific coin. I just bought my first MS 65 coin tuesday this week.

But I had this coin and other Morgans that I sold in 1979/80 at a low point in my life. I coin was raw and perhaps AU 58 to MS 61 from Littleton coin investment co. I think this was before the Morgan dropped in price.

Just a little sentimental reflection that's a'll.
