individual coin scores

5 posts in this topic

I have three walking liberty coins of the same date. All are graded by ngc. I want to trade or sell 2 of them. Is there a way to look up the scores of the three coins so I can keep the one with the highest score? I keep seeing top pop and only 3 higher etc and wonder how do know that? Prior to this I would keep the one that looked best to me but I can't really see much difference in these three. I know it is of little consequence for ms 64 or 65 but more important at a higher grade. Thanks cool.gif

NGC offers a free census on its website to any willing to access it. Simply go to the home page and click the link to the census or click the following link: http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/

From there click the denomination and series of the coin you are looking up. Scroll down until you find the desired date, mint mark, and variety. Then scroll right to see the total graded, and the grades assigned to each from PR-01 to MS-70. The number in the shaded box under the grade stands for the number of coins graded that were assigned that grade.

I have used this site before. My question is how do I differentiate between 3 coins that are graded the same. Is there a ranking within a grade? In other words this coin just barely made a 66 and this one just missed a 67 but they are both 66's
