From what I can see of the coin, it looks..........like a dime. Congrats on your first upload here. Can you make the coin BIGGER! 27_laughing.gif A high grade coin can not be appreciated unless it can be seen for what it is.

The flame appears as full as it can get, very nice coin.

Leo, I think you've done it! You've hit upon the next great designation for Roosevelt dimes (and certain Olympic commemoratives) - FULL FLAME. Yes, the FF designation is sure to be in demand along with a full bullpen of companions. Imagine: a beautiful MS68* DPL FT FF monster toned beauty!

Then again, some message board posts (for example, mine) would likely qualify for the FF designation as well...

It does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it? Or better yet a FULL FLIM FLAM of a DEAL, 27_laughing.gif

But seriously, getting back to Glen's MS67FFFD, 27_laughing.gif.

OK, this is for real, some clown over at the PCg$ boards said and I quack,

"I feel that the 6 step designation should be left to the ultra specialists at this time. I think it is similar to Mercury dimes with "full bands" and "fully rounded bands." I think the 6 steps designation might bring more confusion into the market place and may be a negative."

Let me first say, there are pros and cons to this statement and I won't comment either way.......it doesn't matter. But do collect raw and find them EDS strikes yourself. This is the only way to be a true coin collector and to assemble a high grade collection.

I fully agree Leo

I could never in 100 years buy the coins I find.

My taste is more for good looking fully struck MS65 set of coins.

They are easier to find, complete and look just as good as any MS67.

Besides who would know?

All of my set are humble.

Most of the moderns look plenty good enough in just a nice attractive gem, and are much easier to find than the ultra grades. And some of these may not even exist in the very high grades anyway.

Yeah, and women should be protected from cars with manual transmissions. To put it tactfully, this is a load of manure, and the person who wrote it is an elitist dope.

For one thing, most coin collectors likely know how to count to six, if only because they've done it so many times when paying for acquisitions 27_laughing.gif. For another, what sort of coin collector (other than an ex-coin collector) doesn't have and use a magnifier?

Ultimately, collectors who enjoy and begin to appreciate the subtleties in issues such as the Mercury will notice that some have fully defined features while others do not. Such collectors will likely gravitate over time toward the more perfect specimens.

While I don't favor designation proliferation (in terms of creating designations for just about everything, as I did above frivolously with FULL FLAME), I can see where specifying the relative perfection of such details has value to folks equipped to appreciate the information. To say that the rest of us STUPID PEOPLE should be protected from exposure to these confused.gifreally complicated concepts confused.gif is arrogant and baseless.

Other than that, I have no strong feelings on the subject.

I like nice attractive coins in all grades. Certainly the ultra gems, six step, and 100% strike coins are the ultimate, but with many dates and series the perfect coin won't exist anyway. While this leads me to search for each date in the best possible grade, it would also make perfect sense to attempt a nice well matched set in about the best grade in which you can find all the coins. Any way you attempt a set makes sense really. If one finds a choice set too easy then he can add varities or errors. How about a circulated six step set? Here's a challenge! Most of the earlier dates can be found, but the 1960 to 1984 dates should prove virtually impossible.
